Travelers heading to Bloomington, Minnesota, have a newly refreshed hotel option just steps from one of the country’s most popular shopping and entertainment destinations.
Radisson Blu Mall of America has completed a full renovation of all 500 guestrooms across the hotel’s 13 floors. Four years in development, the project represents the most significant update to the property since it first opened.
Designed by global architecture and design firm Baskervill, the renovation goes beyond simply updating furniture, finishes and décor. The new guestrooms were created to give travelers a stronger connection to Minnesota, drawing inspiration from the waterways and natural landscapes that help define the state.
Minnesota Inspires the New Guestroom Design
The redesigned guestrooms are built around three distinct concepts: Silver Bay, Shoreline and The Confluence.
Each concept takes inspiration from a different Minnesota waterway, incorporating curved lines, layered textures and natural materials into the rooms. Rather than creating a generic hotel design that could be found almost anywhere, the renovation aims to remind guests that they are staying in Minnesota.
“This renovation is about more than refreshed guestrooms. It reflects who we are and the experience we want to create,” said Kate Anastasi, Area Director of Sales and Marketing at Radisson Blu Mall of America.
Anastasi noted that the hotel wants both business and leisure travelers to feel connected to Minnesota from the beginning of their stay, with that sense of place intentionally incorporated throughout the design.
A Minnesota Theme That Extends Beyond the Guestrooms
While the guestrooms received the major transformation, Minnesota influences were already woven throughout other areas of the property.
The hotel’s meeting and event spaces, for example, carry names inspired by Minneapolis-area lakes. These include the Minnetonka Ballroom, Nokomis Room, Cedar Room, Harriet Room and Isles Boardroom.
Guests can find additional local touches in FireLake Grill House & Cocktail Bar, the hotel’s on-site restaurant, where reclaimed Minnesota barn wood contributes to the restaurant’s warm, regional character.
Even the lobby plays a role in telling the story. A rug patterned after an aerial perspective of Minnesota’s lakes introduces the water-inspired theme as guests enter the hotel, creating a visual connection between the lobby and the newly renovated rooms upstairs.
Local Flavors at FireLake Grill House & Cocktail Bar
The emphasis on Minnesota isn’t limited to the hotel’s design.
FireLake Grill House & Cocktail Bar incorporates regional products and suppliers into its food and beverage program. Local partners highlighted by the hotel include Lift Bridge Brewing Co., Red Table Meat Co. and Stickney Hill Dairy.
For travelers who enjoy experiencing a destination through its food, the locally influenced restaurant adds another Minnesota element without requiring guests to leave the property.
Direct Access to Mall of America
One of Radisson Blu Mall of America’s biggest advantages continues to be its location.
The hotel is directly connected to Mall of America, giving guests convenient access to the massive shopping, dining and entertainment complex without needing to drive between the hotel and mall.
That makes the property particularly appealing for families planning a Mall of America getaway, couples visiting Bloomington for a weekend, and travelers who want shopping and entertainment close to their room.
Its location also works well for travelers flying into the Minneapolis area. Radisson Blu Mall of America is only minutes from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport and offers convenient access to the METRO Blue Line, providing another transportation option for exploring the area.
Downtown Minneapolis is also within easy reach, allowing guests to combine a Mall of America stay with additional sightseeing, dining, sports and entertainment in the Twin Cities.
A Major Investment in the Guest Experience
The scale of the renovation is significant. Updating 500 rooms across 13 floors gives the property a substantially refreshed accommodation experience while maintaining many of the location and amenities that have made the hotel attractive to Bloomington visitors.
Alberto Abreu, General Manager of Radisson Blu Mall of America, said the goal was to create something beyond an average hotel refresh.
“As one of Choice Hotels’ flagship properties, the hotel represents what the brand can deliver at its best, so this renovation couldn’t be an average refresh,” Abreu said. “It had to set a new standard for what hospitality, and more specifically what Minnesota hospitality, looks like.”
That focus is especially noticeable in the decision to incorporate regional design elements rather than relying solely on contemporary hotel trends.
Bloomington Continues to Draw Visitors
The renovation arrives as Bloomington continues to welcome a substantial number of travelers. According to figures supplied by the hotel, Minnesota recorded 82.5 million visitors in 2025, while Bloomington accounted for roughly 40 million visitors.
With Mall of America serving as one of the region’s biggest tourism draws, hotels surrounding the destination compete for travelers looking for a convenient home base.
Bloomington Mayor Tim Busse welcomed the hotel’s continued investment in the community, saying the renovations would help provide visitors with an improved experience while strengthening the hotel’s presence in Bloomington.
A Fresh Option for a Mall of America Getaway
For HotelsEscape.com readers planning a trip to Mall of America or the greater Minneapolis area, the completed renovation provides another reason to consider Radisson Blu Mall of America.
The biggest draw remains difficult to beat: guests can stay directly connected to Mall of America while also enjoying convenient access to the airport, public transportation and Minneapolis.
Now, all 500 guestrooms have been redesigned with a look intended to feel distinctly tied to Minnesota. Combined with locally inspired dining, Minnesota-themed meeting spaces and the hotel’s prime Bloomington location, the renovation brings a fresh chapter to one of the area’s best-known hotels.
