Catch a wave at Huntington Beach
Many of Huntington Beach’s attractions take place on the beach—naturally—from the U.S. Open of Surfing to sandcastle building competitions. Whether you are there as a participant or just an observer, Huntington Beach’s outdoor events are world class. Grab your place in the sand and take it all in or watch from the Huntington Beach pier. Watch the action as you take a stroll to Ruby Diner that sits right at the end of the pier and listen to some live music. You might be lucky enough to even catch one of those brilliant California sunsets.
When you are ready to dust the sand off your feet head over to Main Street for some shopping and night life. While in Huntington Beach you’ll definitely want to check out some surf shops. Even if you don’t surf, no stay in Surf City USA is complete without a visit to one of its many famous surf shops. Many of the biggest brands, like Quicksilver, are headquartered in Huntington Beach.
Grab a surf tee or logo cap and then finish off your day with a stroll downtown. If you are lucky enough to have made your hotel reservations on a Tuesday take in Surf City Nights. Main Street is closed to traffic these nights and welcomes street acts and performances, live music and activities for kids. You can take in some shopping and try some samples of food before settling on some fine dining. Have a glass of wine and wine down your evening under the stars.
In the morning you can work off that great food with a jog or serene bike ride. Go jogging, biking or rollerblading along the sand on the Ocean Strand boardwalk. The boardwalk stretches 12.5 miles and connects Sunset Beach to Newport Beach. If you take it easy it’s a great place to people watch. If you like a more vigorous workout, there’s no better place to do that than with the sun on your back and the ocean at your side.
To take in all the great fun Huntington Beach has to offer, make sure you make your hotel reservations early as many places book up during the summer months. Better yet make your hotel reservations off season. You’ll be sure to get the hotel reservations you want while California’s moderate temperatures allow for a pleasurable beachside visit any time of the year.
Try making your hotel reservations at the Hilton Waterfront Resort overlooking 8.5 miles of beautiful beach. Some rooms have private balconies with panoramic ocean views. You’ll even have access to beach butler service under a beach cabana. Now how is that for relaxation? If you feel like staying close to your room you can enjoy the night poolside next to the flickering fire pit. Or enjoy a fine dining experience at the hotel’s Shades Restaurant and Bar. The restaurant is the perfect place for breakfast, lunch or a cozy dinner for two.
Or make your hotel reservation at Huntington Beach Surf Inn and stay where the surfers are. The inn is close to the beach and downtown making it the perfect base to be central to all the action. A favorite with local and international surfing celebrities, the inn features themes from HGTV’s Design Star Antonio Ballatore when it was part of the Nike 6.0 Motel No Tell 2010 project. The inn’s nine rooms pay tribute to Southern California beach and surfing heritage. Sleep in a room surrounded by wildflowers or go to sleep dreaming of the perfect wave inspired by the murals on the wall. Either way, you’ll wake up feeling like you’ve experienced a true piece of Huntington Beach.
